CI3091 - Database Design and Management - 4.5 Credits
In this course, students build on their understanding of database operations by working with the widely distributed MySQL relational database management system. Installation and configuration of a Graphical User Interface (GUI) provides a visual platform to complement and extend understanding of the database structure. The use of Structured Query Language to manage data provides for understanding of native data forms, stored programs, and query optimization. Techniques are developed to capture, import, manipulate and report on data. MySQL programming interfaces are introduced including C, Perl DBI, and PHP. MySQL administration tasks are developed including the discussion of the data dictionary, security and user access control, and finally database maintenance, back-ups and replication techniques.
